Summer Start Frequently Asked Questions
With all the buzz being generated about the Summer START program, there are several frequently asked questions. We wanted to put this list together for you to help answer those. Additionally, if you have any questions that aren't answered here, feel free to contact the Coordinator of Accelerated Summer Academic Programs, Ginny Shepherd, via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students should complete the interest form by May 7th. While these dates are listed as deadlines, please remember Summer START program enrollment is on a first-come first-serve basis.
When is Summer START?
Summer START takes place during the second summer session at NC State. Move in for Summer START will be on Sunday, June 22 and students will need to move out by Saturday, August 2nd.
This year students will be staying in Owen and Turlington Residence Halls. Both halls are located on Central Campus, putting you in close proximity to computer facilities, the First Year Commons and Carmichael Gymnasium - our student recreation facility.
Please keep in mind that the application for summer housing will be different from your fall housing request. Once you complete the online interest form for Summer START, we will contact you with registration procedures for summer housing.
Financial aid may be available to help you pay for your summer classes with the Summer START program. If you are interested in receiving financial assistance through our Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, you must complete the 2014-2015 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online.

We encourage each applicant to take the online math skills test. If you qualify for upper level mathematics, we will speak to you about the options before you are registered for courses.

Registration for Summer Classes
The Summer START staff will work on student course schedules on an individual basis with the student’s adivisor. Once the best path is decided by the advisor and Summer START staff the student will be contacted to discuss the schedule. Once everyone agrees on the course selection, Summer START staff will register the student. You will receive your fall course schedule at New Student Orientation.
New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation works closely with Summer START to ensure students are amply orientated to campus before you start taking classes. New Student Orientation for Summer START students and parents will take place on Monday, June 23.
